PRAGUE VIOLA DUO is the only one long-time performing Europian ensemble offering really extraordinary combination of two violas. Since its founding by young Czech violists Tomáš Hanousek and Jakub Macháček in 2011, it has attracted great attention with its unique and innovative interpretation and dramaturgy.
The duo won laureate awards at the "Karl Ditters von Dittersdorf International Competition Vidnava 2014" and the "North International Music Competition 2018" and succesfully performed at many prestigious festivals and concert series as well as on Czech TV and Radio. The duo has played the premiere performance of new compositions dedicated to the ensemble. Furthermore, the violists have performed many times as soloists in Telemann´s and Vivaldi´s concertos for two violas and orchestra.
The Prague Viola Duo studied with Prof. Karel Doležal (Doležal Quartet) at Charles University and with Prof. Marta Líbalová at the Danish National Academy of Music where Tomáš and Jakub completed the postgraduate Soloist Degree. They also had a great opportunity to study with legendary violinist Prof. Břetislav Novotný (Prague String Quartet). 

Both members have won numerous awards as soloists. In 2016 they were accepted into the "Carl Nielsen Orchestral Academy" of the Odense Symphony Orchestra and have often played in major Danish orchestras since then. In the Czech Republic, they worked as assistant teachers of chamber music at the Dobřichovice International String Masterclass & Festival, Tomáš Hanousek is also the founder and organizer of the Violin & Accordion  Masterclass  in Chotěboř.
